Rover and Taxes: What You Need to Know

As a pet sitter or dog walker on Rover, you’re considered to be running your own business through the Rover platform. This means that you’re responsible for reporting your earnings on Rover in your tax filing each year and paying any taxes owed on your earnings.

We know filing taxes can be confusing, so we’ve partnered with a trusted tax partner on this comprehensive country-specific PDF guide made just for sitters on Rover. It provides an overview of tax obligations you may have for your earnings through Rover.

Note: Rover can’t offer tax advice. If you have specific questions, need tax advice, or are unsure about your unique situation, we recommend reaching out to a tax professional

What is Digital Platform Information Reporting?

The Norwegian government has introduced new Digital Platform Information Reporting rules (locally referred to as "DPI rules"), which will apply beginning 1 January 2026. These new rules require online marketplaces, like Rover, to collect and report taxpayer information on marketplace providers who earn income via the marketplace. For Rover, this law means we are required by the Norwegian government to collect additional tax information from you if you are a pet care provider and resident in Norway. We’re also required to report this tax information along with your earnings for the year to the Norwegian Tax Administration.

As a result of the DPI rules, Rover is responsible for reporting information related to your activity on the Rover.com marketplace. This is a requirement that applies to all online marketplaces with Norwegian resident sellers, so you may see similar requests and reporting if you are active on other online marketplaces in Norway.

How does this apply to me?

Starting in 2026, DPI rules will apply to you if you meet all requirements below:

  • You are a Norwegian resident.
  • You completed a booking on Rover during the applicable calendar year.

Rover will collect information from all Norway sitters starting in 2026 and Rover will report eligible sitters to the Norwegian Tax Administration under the DPI rules.

What information is disclosed to Norway?

The guidance from the Norwegian Tax Administration is still evolving, but based on our current understanding, Rover must collect and then report the following information to your country of residence:

Information provided by you:

  • Full legal name
  • Primary address
  • Country of residence
  • Tax identification number (TIN) or VAT number and country of issuance
  • Date of birth or organization number

Information provided by Rover:

  • Amounts you earned for bookings you completed during each quarter within the calendar year and the number of bookings
  • Any fees withheld from the amount paid to you during each quarter (this includes the service fees charged by Rover)

How do I provide my information to Rover?

You’ll be able to complete your tax information and access your Rover Tax Account from your Payments Dashboard. This information will be used solely to comply with tax and financial reporting obligations and will be encrypted in transit.

Note about character limits when providing your tax information:

Only English letters, numbers, and special characters (& - , \' / # . %) are accepted. If your name, address, or any other tax information contains accented characters, please write the information using English letters that represent the equivalent of an accented character.

For example, use a instead of á, o instead of ó, ae instead of ä, or ue instead of ü.

To complete your tax information:

  1. Navigate to the Payments Dashboard from your Rover account, then select Provide Tax details.
  2. Complete the questions to provide your tax information.
  3. When finished, sign and submit your information. You’ll see an option to return to your Payments dashboard.

Note: If you don’t provide the information requested, Rover will be required to freeze your payouts and may pause your ability to offer services on Rover until you’ve completed your tax information.

Where can I view the Digital Platform information that Rover is reporting?

Rover will provide you with an electronic statement of the tax information that we submitted to your country of residence by the end of January 2027. You don’t need to take any action when you receive this statement.

Here's how to access your statement:

  1. Visit the Payments page of your account, then navigate to the Documents section.
  2. Select Tax statement via your Rover tax account to view or download the statement.
  3. Select Download on your 2026 tax form and select the relevant year’s tax statement.

What do the numbers on my tax document mean?

The table below is an example of the tax document you’ll receive. The amounts you see on each row correspond to quarters of the year:

Here’s a summary of the different sections:

  1. Quarter
    1. Q1 = January - March
    2. Q2 =  April - June
    3. Q3 = July - September
    4. Q4 = October - December
  2. Consideration Amount* (Net of Fees):  These are the amounts paid into your bank account
  3. Fees*: These are the Rover Service fees
  4. *Note: Decimal values have been rounded to the nearest whole number. As a result, there might be differences in the displayed numbers on the table versus the actual numbers reported.

Your tax document will appear in English only, but you can view all other tax information in your preferred language by using the dropdown menu from your tax profile.
